Nha Trang New Year

Not having been sunburned in far too long,
Daphne and I head for another Vietnamese beach to celebrate the New Year in a tourist town called Nha Trang. While the town has a notorious party reputation we never managed to stay up late enough to test it out, even on New Years Eve we were back at our place by 1am. It was only a four day trip, and three of them we spent on the beach. The Louisiane Brewhouse became our main beach spot as they brewed some great beers on the cheap, although their food was overpriced. Generally, however, the food here is really good and very affordable with lots of international options as well as really good local barbecue and seafood. We had a massive plate of seafood on the beach for only 300,000VND[15USD] consisting of two lobsters, four scallops, four fist-sized sea snails, a small crab and four of something that looked like a cross between a shrimp and a giant centipede.

[That plate below is all ours]

We took one day and did a boat trip around some of the nearby islands. Some snorkeling, a floating bar, "entertainment" and lunch all for under $10.

[Daphne helps the MC sing]

They also took us to an aquarium that's built from concrete and in the shape of an undead junk. Sadly they spent more money on their aquarium design than on the care of the aquatic life within.

[Ghooooost shiiiip]

The trip was short but it was nice to get our feet wet, our bellies filled and our wallets little harmed.

  1. haha, I like your last sentence.
"four of something that looked like a cross between a shrimp and a giant centipede" << I guess people call this "Tôm tích" in VNmese. I haven't tried it yet. Is it good tasting??

  2. It is good, apparently they are called "Mantis Prawns" in English. Thanks for the VN translation.
